As the race for Elgeyo Marakwet Governor hots up, Keiyo South MP Jackson Kiptanui has been accused of being behind chaotic scenes that were witnessed on Thursday at public baraza convened by Governor Alex Tolgos.

This is after rowdy youth disrupted a public baraza that had was to be addressed by Tolgos at Kapkitony centre which is the backyard Kiptanui who has declared interest in unseating him in this year’s polls.

Governor Tolgos was on a development tour in Kabiemit ward, Keiyo South sub county, where he had earlier commissioned a number of projects that were initiated by his administration.

The projects included; ECD Centres in Samabul, Tambul and Kogibor, the launch of livestock feeds machine in HZ centre and the official opening of Kapkitony health centre which has underwent a major facelift.

After the official opening of the the health centre at Kapkitony, Governor Tolgos was to address a public baraza. However when the meeting had just kicked off a number of youth, seemingly drunk, stormed the meeting chanting anti-Tolgos slogans.

The rowdy youth allegedly allied to MP Kiptanui brought the meeting to a halt denying the county boss a chance to address the meeting. In their chants they praised Kamai(Kiptanui). “Kamai kityo! Makimoche Merkwetek” which loosely translated to ‘We support Kamai, we don’t want Marakwets’.

In the ongoing melee, the Governor and his entourage left with the youth chanting “Leteni Pesa yetu sasa, tumemaliza kazi“(Give us our money, we have finished our job), utterances that reinforced accusations that they had been hired to disrupt the baraza.

This comes a few weeks after, Kiptanui who is eyeing the gubernatorial seat, was quoted in an audio clip circulated on social media urging the Keiyo community not to vote for a Marakwet Governor.

Kiptanui hails from the Keiyo community while the incumbent Governor is from the Marakwet community.
